Marybeth Majestic has been a resident of the town of Gardiner for 43 years. She was raised in the Bronx (Woodlawn) and attended SUNY New Paltz in 1978. She graduated with a major in Political Science and a double minor in Journalism (Legislative Gazette Alumni) and Speech Communication. She and her husband Charley have been married for 35 years and together they raised their 3 children here.
Marybeth is seeking her fifth term as Town Supervisor. She stands up and fights for what she believes in, but only after fully researching and considering all the facts. She is hard-working, with a strong will and desire to do what she can to keep Gardiner the beautiful place that it is. Some of her accomplishments as Supervisor include:
- Completed an updated Comprehensive Plan 2022;
- Currently is working with State and County officials to address the dangerous conditions at the Bruynswick Road intersection;
- Supported the Riverbend Trails construction on the Transfer Station Property;
- Made extensive improvements to the Town Hall (exterior drop box, hand sanitizers, glass dividers at counters and updated technology necessary to effectively zoom municipal meetings to the public, new entry doors with safer stairways);
- Replaced a 30-year-old temporary bridge on Clove Road Bridge and repaved;
Works with Highway Superintendent to keep fleet up to date; purchased a new generator, skidsteer and excavator for the highway department; - Updated a new, user-friendly town website;
- Implemented initiatives to improve communication among Gardiner’s various boards;
- Created a more efficient and transparent board meeting process;
- Implemented necessary improvements at Majestic Park (pavilion and basketball court – fall 2022) and the rail trail (Forest Glen Road bridge replacement, traffic calming devices at Old Ford Road) and with UC and OSI widened and vastly improved the rail trail surface;
- Reviewed and revised sections of the Zoning Code;
- Completed an Inflow and Infiltration Study on the Hamlet’s Sewer Treatment Plant, went to bid on the contract and improvements will be made this Summer;
- Adopted a Community Preservation Fund, and enacted a 1.25% real estate transfer tax to secure and increase our Open Space;
- Invested in our building department to address our growing needs and enforcement.
- Joined a Community Choice Aggregation program which use 100% renewable energy as the default program for town residents that do not opt out of the program.
- Working with New York Power Authority to purchase our street lights.
- Accomplished all of the above and more while reducing town taxes for 3 consecutive years.
Much has been accomplished, but there is still a great deal of work to do, and Marybeth welcomes the opportunity to continue working for the residents of Gardiner.
